Factors Influencing the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Foamed Concrete - Modelling and Optimization[ ]

Due to its superior characteristics, such as low density, high thermal insulation and high fire resistance, foamed concrete is gaining popularity in the construction field. Nonetheless, lack of knowledge remains regarding the prediction of the mechanical and physical properties of foamed concrete; necessitating further experimentation and modelling. This effort comprises eighteen mix proportions (experiments) with two different types of fillers (sand and lime powder); divided into two groups (density ranges); Group I: 563-to-1016 kg/m3 and Group II: 935-to-1374 kg/m3. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of input-proportions/ratios such as: foam volume, lime-to-filler ratio and cement-to-filler ratio on the physical and mechanical properties of foamed concrete. These properties include density, compressive strength, flexural strength and thermal conductivity. Three statistical approaches are used for this investigation: (i) Taguchi orthogonal array method to get the optimal conditions to obtain a target value; (ii) the analysis of variance (ANOVA) approach to know the influence of different factors on the various properties and (iii) the multiple linear regression approach to develop empirical relationships that can be used for mix design. It is concluded that the foam volume fashions a paramount effect on density and compressive strength; amounting to 92.5 and 91.5% contribution - on average - for the aforementioned density ranges, respectively. The two parameters of lime-to-overall-filler ratio and cement-to-filler ratio yield a significantly lower effect. Foam-concrete density has proven most influence in determining both compressive strength magnitude and thermal conductivity. Two models, based on minimizing the square-error approach, are proposed to calculate the latter output parameters as a function of foam concrete density.

Condition-Based Knowledge Representational Structure for Identifying Norms Violation In Logic-Based Normative Systems[ ]

Normative systems use norms to regulate agents' activities in a Multi-Agent System (MAS). Existing methods infer the violation of a norm as the failure of an intelligent software agent to guarantee the effect of the norm at a certain time (fixed). This type of inference is without recourse to the norm's condition and its identity that warranted the intelligent software agent failure. This study was therefore designed to develop Condition-based Knowledge Representational Structures (CKRS), capable of making violation inferences about the condition and the identity of the violated norm for open agent societies. Norms were formalised in a Horn's Clause (HC). The formalised norms were assigned norm identifications (Id) that they pass on to the normative tokens inferred from them. The language was applied to real life norms arising from lecturing, registration and examination domains using data from University of Ibadan, Nigeria. A reified Temporal Constraint Structure (TCS) that combined qualitative and quantitative relationships between actions and situations was used to describe the time constraints between situations (s) and the action types (a-type) in each norm. Satisfaction Rules (SRs) that determined if temporal constraints (tc) hold for actions (act) and situations were developed. Norm validity was represented as a relation between a norm's identity and the time of its validity. The CKRS was compared to existing methods in order to ascertain its effectiveness in identifying norms violation in MAS.

A Review Study on Small Signal Stability Enhancement in Power System with Integration of Distributed Wind Energy Sources[ ]

In this modern era, distributed energy like Photo Voltaic System (PV), Wind, Fuel Cell etc. are considered as a very small source of electric power conversion from non-conventional energy sources. Small signal stability analysis of a power system is correlated mainly with the inter-area and intra area oscillations. But, during small disturbance it leads to different types of unstable conditions. Usually, synchronous system mechanical part’s provides weak damped oscillations which comes from other sources, such as damper windings and the machine’s controllers. As power system has only 50Hz frequency with very small amplitude which can hardly any damping by the damper windings, leaving the controllers and the rest of the power system are considered as the main contributors to the damping of the rotor speed oscillations. This review research paper represents small-signal stability analysis of not only isolated but also interconnected autonomous hybrid distributed generation system with sudden variation in load demand, wind speed and solar radiation etc.

The impact of effective CRM technology implementations on customer retention in the hospitality industry: case of Moroccan hotels[ ]

Customer relationship management (CRM) has become a key strategy for customizing customer experiences and improving customer satisfaction and retention, particularly in hotels. However, previous studiesdemonstrate that these hotels are not taking advantage of the full potential of CRM and many of them struggle to succeed with its implementation. This study analyses the main success factors of CRM implementation and their impact on customer retention, based on a sample of 80 Moroccan hotels. The results highlight that CRM are not frequently used in Moroccan hotels, mainly in 3 stars hotels. The findings reveal, as well, that investing in technology is necessary but not sufficient for achieving positive results with CRM. CRM technologies do not impact customer retention if not effectively used. We finally demonstrate the crucial role played by organizational factors (CRM technology users’ acceptance, ease of use of CRM software, CRM culture in the company, knowledge management of CRM data) in improving customer retention in the hospitality industry.

EVOLUTION OF ECO-FRIENDLY ANTIMICROBIAL FINISHES EXTRACTED FROM CITRUS FRUITS PEEL FOR TEXTILE COTTON FABRIC WITH FURTHERANCE DOMESTIC WASHING[ ]

The fabrics and cloths with antibacterial properties are become important to control the infestation by microbes, and to reduce the formation of odor. In order to evaluate washing durability of natural antimicrobial finishes we have used citrus waste extracts from lemon and orange rind. The fabric samples were tested for antimicrobial activity after different washing conditions against bacterial strains by quantitative analysis by AATCC test method 100-2004. The results indicated that the cotton fabric treated with natural finishes shows resistance against microbial strains. The washing process imposed great stresses on the surface of fabric and the antimicrobial activity was gradually decreased after each wash. For analyzing the effect of washing on antimicrobial activity; the finished fabrics were washed several times according to the standard ISO 6330-2012E. The washing result shows a gradual decrease in antimicrobial activity after each wash. The wash-ability of natural finishes was improved with the help of binding agent sodium bicarbonate, which improves the antimicrobial finish attachment with the fabric.

A Numerical Study to Predict the Evolution of Yellow Fever Diseases using fourth order Runge-Kutta Method[ ]

Mathematical Modeling has emerged as a vital tool for understanding the dynamics of the spread of many infectious diseases, one amongst is Yellow Fever. The main focus of this paper is to model mathematically the transmission dynamics of Yellow Fever. For this purpose we tend to use basic SIR model of Yellow Fever to predict the outbreak of the diseases. As we cannot fully solve the 3 basic equations of SIR model with a certain formula solution, we introduce fourth order Runge Kutta Method. This strategy is quite efficient and practically well suited for solving initial value problem (IVP) for ordinary differential equations (ODE).We discuss the performance of Runge Kutta method with the actual data. The population that we used for this model had roughly a similar number of individuals as the number was living in Angola during 2016.

International Business and Aligning CSR[ ]

The labor relationship between the employer and the workers is evaluated and directed by the labor rights, which is a group of legal rights that are derived from human rights. Labor rights are more precisely relative to CSR as CSR are based on perspective and point of view of a given corporation. In this perspective, implementing the workers and labor rights becomes more difficult compared to the implementation of the CSR. If an international corporation can be able to align CSR with the labor laws, the friction between the employees and the corporation and the employee is likely to reduce. There is need to explore whether multinational corporations can be able to align CSR with the labor rights and employee initiatives global market. In this case, the analysis focuses on China, Brazil, and India as the reference countries with cross-sectional secondary data obtained from a survey of the existing sources on the internet. The pertinent question is whether multinational corporations be successful while aligning CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) with labor rights and employee initiatives in a competitive global market based on that cross-sectional data. The findings reveal that the uphold of labor rights largely determines morale of the employees and the will to participate in the growth and development of a given business both locally and international. Notably, the continued change of CSR has resulted in the replacement of management and government dominated trade unions with more democratic unions of workers that pay attention to the initiatives of the workers. The combination of the internal code of conduct with the workers association, labor associations and movements is one of the credible routes that show CSR can be aligned with labor rights.

Absorption And Shielding of Electromagnetic Waves by using Additional Air Grille "ZZ" Applied to HVAC Systems[ ]

Recently, considerable attention has been paid to the design and development of highly efficient electromagnetic waves absorbing materials due to the increasing demand from civil, commercial and military applications. The paper is di-rected to develop an air grille with high absorption, shielding capacity and suitable size. The developed air grille ZZ structure consists of perforated stainless steel plate 50 cm × 50 cm with holes of diameter 4 mm symmetric shape and AL aluminum frame 60 cm × 60 cm with a NICR nickel chrome tubes filled with PB. ZZ grille has been developed in order to combine high absorption, shielding and control of electromagnetic waves radiation. The large electromagnetic absorption and shielding are attained by simultaneously choosing the reflection and transmission, which depends on effective material properties, requires an average dielectric constant and conductivity around 1 S/m, which is the SI unit of conductivity is Siemens per meter. The ZZ grille also has high stiffness versus density performance.
